Join Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods for an exciting week-long summer program combining learning & play in the outdoors! Forest to Sea campers get to explore nature, make new friends, do arts & crafts, and experience an optional night of tent camping at Bullfrog Pond Campground. Activities will take place in a different park each day, including Armstrong Redwoods, Sonoma Coast, and Austin Creek. Topics will include ecology, biology, geology and history of our beautiful parks.
Day Camp Info:
- For children/students entering 5-8th Grade
- Cost is $50 per child (scholarships available)
- Environmental education led by trained Stewards Docents
- Parent/guardian drop-off and pick-up required
- Bring your own lunch (campout meals will be provided)
- Camping gear available for loan

Monday, June 11
Campers will be dropped off at the Armstrong Woods Visitor’s Center and will begin the day by making wood-cookie name tags, nature journals and learning basic photography before setting off into the trees of Armstrong to learn about Redwood Ecology and the animals of the forest floor. Pick-up will be at the Stewards Office/ Volunteer Center.
Tuesday, June 12
Campers will begin the day by being dropped off at the Shell Beach parking lot off of Hwy 1. Campers will hike the Kortum Trail! They will learn about coastal geology, flora & fauna, seabirds, and marine mammals along the trail. Pick-up will be at the Goat Rock Beach parking lot. (Hike is 3 miles and contains mild topographical climbs.)
Wednesday, June 13
After being dropped off by parents at North Salmon Creek Beach parking lot campers will spend the morning Tidepooling and learning about the habitat of tidepool critters. In the afternoon we will focus on dune ecology and the science of estuaries. Pick up will be the same as drop-off.
Thursday, June 14
Drop off will be in the Steward’s Office parking lot (pick-up location on day 1). From there campers will be shuttled to Austin Creek to learn about oak-woodlands, watershed ecology, and the animals of Austin Creek! An afternoon to early evening Junior Ranger program will be available for all transitioning into overnight campers at 4:00 PM. Those who will not be participating in the overnight can be picked up by prior arrangement.
Evening Programming for Participants of Campout: Dinner and S’mores will be provided. Content consists of: Camping Safety/ Basics of Camping, Nocturnal Animal Talk (Owls, Bobcats and Bats), Night Sky Program (if it is clear) and Campfire Stories. Breakfast will be provided the following morning.
Friday, June 15
Drop off at Stewards Office (for those who did not campout). Campers will take down tents and learn about Leave-No-Trace ethics before meeting at the Pond Farm for a tour of the historic pottery school before returning to the Stewards Office for a video and a lesson on making clay animals. The final 30 minutes will be spent on reflection and talking about what we learned over the week.
